Description

This eight-hour course is a certificate program that is geared toward new graduates and practicing nurses who want to refreshen their IV skills and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) who want to receive certification in intravenous insertions and therapies. Our basic IV therapy training program, also known as IV certification program, focuses on new graduates, registered nurses (RNs) and LPNs with little or no experience in IV infusion therapy. We have distinct hands-on training programs for RNs and LPNs working in acute care hospitals, long-term care, alternate site care settings and home health care. The student will learn to identify indications for IV therapy, signs and symptoms of fluid and electrolyte imbalances and different types of IV solutions; understand peripheral anatomy and IV access, infusion therapy standards of practice by the Infusion Nurses Society (INS), characteristics of good veins and veins to avoid for venipuncture, complications of venipunctures and IV therapy; and understand infection control, IV insertion, flushing, dressing changes, documentation, medication administration and peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line basics. Once this course is complete, you will obtain an IV certification certificate.
